Indian bowlers showed a good play on day four as team England could only manage to score 164 runs in their second innings.
Axar Patel made his debut in the Test match and showed a massive play taking five wickets during England’s second innings. On the other hand, Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav bagged three and two wickets, respectively.
England restarted its second innings from an overnight score of 53/3 and was chasing the target of 482 runs that India set. England survived its starting six overs before Ashwin took charge of his first ball on the 4th day. Ashwin firing the ball down the leg side, Dan stepped out, and Rishabh Pant showed a fantastic work at the stumps.
Skipper Joe Root and Ben Stokes then played cautiously to save a partnership for England and did the task quite decently until in the 38th over, Stokes was dismissed by Ashwin’s bowling. Stokes departed after scoring eight runs off 51 balls as England lost half their side for 90 runs.
Ollie Pope scored 20 more runs with Root to take England over the 100 run mark before he was shown the way to dressing room by Axar Patel. Kuldeep then dismissed Ben Foakes that reduced team England to 116/7. However, the dismissal of skipper was a major setback for the team.
Root, who was playing at 33, was caught at the slip by Rahane off Axar’s fantastic bowling. Moeen Ali started putting Axar under pressure after he hit threes continuous sixes in the 52nd over. However, Kuldeep got hold of Moeen who was at 43 from 18 balls. This was the end of 2nd innings for England.
Earlier, Ashwin scored a century that helped India set a big score against England. He played a knock of 106 runs, and India’s total was 482 runs. India won the match with a massive difference.
