BR Chopra’s Mahabharat became the turning point in the careers of several actors. The show is on a rerun at several channels now and earning them high TRPs. However, as irony has it, a popular actor in the show, Satish Kaul, who played Lord Indra, now aged 65, is struggling to make his ends meet.
Satish has been living in Vivekananda Old Age Ashram for the last two years. He has been separated from his wife and family for years now. As Amitabh Bachchan of Punjab, Satish has been part of more than 300 Hindi and Punjabi films that included several box office successes like ‘Zanjeer,’ ‘Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha,’ ‘Aunty No 1’ and ‘Ram Lakhan.’
Satish Kaul was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at PTC Punjabi Film Awards in 2011.
After Satish’s wife and son shifted to the US, the actor suffered several financial troubles. Wanting to revive his acting career, the actor stayed back and started an acting school, but could not make much of it. A few years later in 2014, he joined Punjabi University in 2014 more a meagre monthly salary. His career came to a halt after he fell and suffered a hip fracture. The actor has been bed-ridden ever since that accident.
In the year 2017, the salary from University also stopped. Later, in 2019, the Punjab government provided him financial aid of Rs 5 lakhs. Meanwhile, the actor wants to own a decent place to stay and a role to get back to the acting ring again.
