Amazon is on an expansion of its business spree in India, even in these difficult times of Covid-19 spread and lockdown. When existing players like Swiggy and Zomato are struggling to stay afloat in the market, the e-commerce giant has debuted in food delivery services. The services have initially started in Bengaluru, where delivery executives are reaching out to restaurants and cloud kitchen to deliver cooked food to customers.
Amazon reportedly said that they are adhering to the highest food safety and hygiene standards as people are reluctant to order food from delivery outlets over sanitation issues. It is thus inspiring people to use its platform during the pandemic in ways of sanitation.
According to Amazon, the services were started to help local businesses who went out of business due to lock down to gain momentum. Four pin codes in Bengaluru — 560048, 560037, 560066, and 560103 can at present enjoy food delivery services from Amazon.
The company is yet to provide clarity on its criteria to select restaurants and cloud kitchens. Grocery and essential daily delivery of Amazon are already in place.
Customers in the pin as mentioned above codes can get access to their food delivery service from the existing Amazon app. The experience is in line with what is there on Swiggy and Zomato.
But both Swiggy and Zomato recently have let go of some of their existing staff to overcome the revenue loss they faced due to the Covid-19 situation and subsequent two months-long nationwide lockdown.
